What we thought

The Rambling Pig, located in Ewell, Surrey, brings Filipino fusion cuisine to Surrey. As a branch of the well-known Rapsa@100 Hoxton, the restaurant offers a mix of traditional Filipino dishes with a modern twist, which is a recipe for delicious food. In terms of decor, it’s a quirkily fitted-out establishment - with plenty of older features still in place alongside graffitied walls.

The restaurant provides a diverse menu that means there will be something for everyone - even though it includes some rarely seen ingredients. There’s a big emphasis on communal dining, so you come here to share lots of small plates between you and your fellow diners. They even have things such as the Boodle Fight feasts, which are a great option to have in one of the two private dining rooms.

These dining rooms also have the added benefit of having karaoke - so you are on for a fun night in one of these. The concept of communal dining is evident in options like the Filipino Boodle Fight feasts, encouraging shared platters for family-style meals. It adds to the relaxed atmosphere of the Rambling Pig, which focuses on great food alongside providing a backdrop for a fun night out. We even took kids who were able to find something to eat on the adult menu - Filipino style chicken and chips or some macaroni cheese. Both were yummy and would be heartily eaten by adults too. Other food we tried, and loved, was the delicious Salmon and Tuna Kinilaw and Pork Lechon.

We went at quite an early time in the evening - around 17.30 - but the place filled up quickly and was packed by the time we left. The separate bar had orders of cocktails being made while we were there - we didn’t try them as we were driving, but they looked fantastic and will definitely be on our hit list when we return.

Would we go back?

In a heart beat. This time to go with a bigger group of friends as it’s the perfect place to get together.
